3 Bored Apes Lost to Phishing Scam, Holders Beware!

A Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) holder has lost three valuable NFTs worth 54.8505 ETH. Just like Moonbirds, BAYC is also one of the most valuable NFTs with many scammers targeting the owners.

Breakdown of the phished Bored Ape NFTs

The crypto investigator ZachXBT revealed the Bored Ape holder lost those three rare NFTs to a sneaky phishing attack.

The Bored Ape NFTs phished include BAYC #7531, BAYC #6736, and BAYC #2100. NFT marketplace OpenSea valued the NFTs at 21 ETH ($62,960), 15.8505 WETH ($47,500), and 18 ETH ($54,000) respectively.

Etherscan, the blockchain explorer also revealed that the wallet linked to the BAYC NFT transactions historically features in previous phishing scams. It still needs to be clarified how exactly this phishing attack happened.

BAYC 7531 is special because it has the rare trait of white fur, which only 4% of the total 10,000 NFTs have. As for BAYC 6736, it has the “small grin” trait, which is even rarer with only 3% possessing this feature.

Lastly, BAYC 2100 is unique with multiple traits including Bored Pizza (0.5%), tie-dye shirt (1%), girl’s short hair (2%), blindfold (3%), gold stud (4%), and pink fur (5%).

Even though the lost Bored Ape NFTs were valuable, the collection’s floor prices have dropped to 15.09 ETH from April 28 to May 5.

Crypto enthusiasts and investors have been affected by this significant dip. Kevin Hart, a comedian and actor, recently sold his Bored Ape Yacht Club at a significant loss of 83%.

Stay vigilant: Sneaky links and scams are on the rise

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigations warned that phishing schemes use sneaky techniques to deceive and trap individuals. These scams aim to trick you into sharing sensitive information with criminals.

The crypto industry has unfortunately seen its fair share of fraud and illicit activities. Just recently, The Shibarmy Scam Alerts account raised awareness about fake Telegram accounts impersonating top Shiba Inu developers.

Efforts to fight crime are also rising as  BGEcrypto reported Binance Exchange played a huge part role in apprehending the suspect connected the rug pull of Zkasino, an online gambling platform based on crypto.
