Satoshi Nakamoto: Peter Todd Says He's Not Bitcoin Creator

The release of the Satoshi Nakamoto documentary from HBO naming Peter Todd as the creator of Bitcoin has triggered more speculations

The much-anticipated Satoshi Nakamoto HBO Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery documentary is out. The media house has identified prominent Bitcoin developer Peter Todd as Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. Todd has denied his involvement in creating the firstborn cryptocurrency or its associated blockchain.

No Evidence to Substantiate Satoshi Nakamoto’s Identity

In the heat of the revelation, the Bitcoin developer has equally accused HBO and Cullen Hoback, the filmmaker, of putting his life in danger. He claimed the filmmaker needed more groundwork to ascertain if he created Bitcoin.

Todd clarified that he had only discovered Bitcoin while reading the White Paper. His current stance does not agree with the evidence that Hoback has presented.

The Emmy-nominated filmmaker compiled circumstantial evidence and based his case on a thread on Bitcoin Talk. This showed Todd starting a thought as Satoshi and accidentally finishing it via his account.

“Well yeah, I’m Satoshi Nakamoto,” Todd said in response to a contentious question from Hoback.

Considering that Todd is widely known for invoking the phrase “I am Satoshi” to back the real creator’s desire to remain anonymous, this admission does not substantiate that he is Satoshi Nakamoto.

According to TIME Magazine correspondent Andrew Chow, some Bitcoiners do not think Todd is Satoshi Nakamoto. While the Canadian Bitcoin core developer is a combative and controversial figure in the Bitcoin world,

“He’s too contrarian to focus on building something as complex and involved,” one bitcoiner noted.

Len Sassaman is Not Satoshi Nakamoto?

The revelation must have caught many by surprise. Several Polymarket bettors had placed their wager on Len Sassaman being Satoshi Nakamoto.

The speculation that Len Sassaman could be the one stemmed from his strong scholarly works on cryptography. Before his demise in 2011, Sassaman authored articles that displayed a deep philosophical commitment to privacy and decentralization.

Additionally, Sassaman’s suicide occurred shortly after Nakamoto disappeared from the Bitcoin Forum, BTCTalk. The proximity of both events raises concerns that they may be connected. Todd’s current denial and Hoback’s inability to provide substantial evidence still leaves the industry with the question: Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?
