Historic 300,000 XRP in XRPL Fees Now Worth a Fortune: Details

Historically, one user paid over 300,000 XRP for a transaction on the XRPL. As the network grew over the past 8 years, this sum is now valued at $700,000

Popular crypto analyst Vet on social media platform X recently shared details about huge fees paid by an unknown user. The analyst revealed that an unknown user paid 300,000 XRP in fees in 2017.

The Highest XRP Fees Paid on XRPL

According to VET, the 300,000 XRP fee is the highest paid since the creation of the XRP Ledger (XRPL). The unknown user paid the fees in four separate transactions, which cost about 73,238 XRP, 75,742 XRP, 74,903 XRP, and 74,068 XRP. In total, these transactions amounted to 297,951 XRP.

The fees amounted to $65,549 at the time of the transaction. However, Vet noted in his post that the 297,951 XRP were worth over $700,000 as of Sunday, March 23.

According to XRPScan, the transactions occurred on September 11, 2017, at 07:24 a.m. (UTC). The transactions, initiated by the unknown address ‘rKLPB…57UGn’, were made to cancel offers on XRPL.

Per the details, the unknown user initiated five ‘offer cancel’ transactions. One of the five transactions cost about 0.21 XRP, only a fraction of XRP. However, the user paid at least 73,238 XRP fees for the remaining four transactions.

When asked how the transaction happened, Vet proposed that a bot perform the transaction on the user’s behalf. He explained that the bot might have ‘fumbled some fields’ in the account script, resulting in the outrageous fees.

Vet confirmed that the wallet is still active, despite the costly mistake. With its last transaction recorded on June 28, 2023, the wallet currently has a balance of 19.80 XRP.

New Upgrade Goes Live on XRPL

Vet’s recent update follows a new upgrade on the XRP Ledger.

Earlier this month, XRPL introduced native programmability to its chain, enhancing the protocol’s flexibility and functionality. This makes it easier for developers to build custom solutions for institutions without compromising efficiency.

Before this update, the XRP Ledger welcomed the AMMClawback amendment on its mainnet, another milestone for the broader XRP ecosystem. This amendment ensures token issuers fully control their assets deposited in liquidity pools under specific conditions.

XRP recently hit 2.77 million transactions, suggesting massive interaction and network usage in recent times.
